Belle, a former land-based OFW, aspires to work in cruise ships so she enrolled herself in a Basic Training (BT) course.
Anyone who wants to be a seafarer should get Basic Safety training as required by an international regulation called International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) 1995, as amended.
The reason is simple. When you start working at sea, you should have sound knowledge (more importantly, apply what you have learned from your training) of elementary first aid, fire prevention and fire-fighting, personal survival techniques and personal safety and social responsibility.
After her training, I asked Belle if I could blog her personal experience. I’m grateful she said yes and here’s what she clued me about her training.
Thanks Belle! Kudos to your next journey. 🙂
Have you completed Basic Training yet?
